John Aggers
I had the privilege of growing up in a Christian home where I was taught about Jesus from the Bible. At age 7, I then prayed and asked Jesus to forgive my sins, and to become my Lord and Savior.
When I became an adult, I started serving in the church. I would read the Bible, but I never was taught how to study the Bible or the importance of daily Bible study and prayer.
In 1978 my wife and I felt led to join 6 other families and start a church in a growing area of the city where a good evangelical church was needed. In 1980 the pastor introduced us to the Navigator 2:7 series. This is where I learned how study the Bible and the importance to make this a daily habit. I was also challenged to memorize Bible verses. This really changed my life.
I have been discipling individuals and small groups in the principles that I learned in the Navigator 2:7 series. God enabled me to retire at 59 in 2010 to focus on discipleship. In 2010 I heard about an opportunity to go to India to teach the Bible to village pastors and leaders. I made my first trip in February 2011. God made it clear that was what I was to do. Through 2016 I spent a year in India and developed a curriculum for village pastors and leaders that would never be able to go to a seminary.
In 2013 I became an on-line missionary with Global Media Outreach which enabled me to start discipling people all over the world through the Internet.
In 2017 I started doing on-line trainings through the internet and “Internet Discipleship Training” (IDT) was born. This enabled me to have monthly trainings with the pastors and leaders instead of just twice a year on my extended trips to India.
In 2018 I made a mission trip to Nepal for two weeks and developed contacts in that country and started weekly discipleship trainings in 2021. They are now discipling
others.
Through my Global Media Outreach missionary work I have developed contacts in other countries that were interested in discipling others. I changed the name to “International Discipleship Training” (IDT). I am now holding weekly trainings to three groups of pastors and leaders in Nigeria. We have other countries wanting this training.
After thinking about what our real goal is for discipleship, I adopted 2 Timothy 2:2 as our key verse. This led me to call this ministry “Reproducing Discipleship”.
2 Timothy 2:2 (NASB) 2 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
In 2021 we launched “Reproducing Discipleship” website at biblesword.net. In 2022 we launched a discipleship tracking database for individuals and churches.
In May 2024 we were led to pick up the support of an orphanage with 53 children in India. We will be training these children about Jesus and the Bible. Over 50% are not currently Christians.
We pay the expenses for pastors and leaders taking the training like transportation costs, food, lodging, and training materials including a good study Bible. We also have a full-time interpreter for trainings in India in Hindi. He is also developing training videos for all our curriculum in Hindi.
